A lovely quote from someone on the yahoo sound design group, which is a mail list that is a source of much inspiration and discussion. There was one gem that I particularly think is worth repeating: “A piece of advice Randy Thom shared with me once was that great sound designers don’t ask others how to make a particular sound. Not because they’re better than anybody else but because they so value each of those experiences and discoveries in trying to create the sound that they hear in their head. Even if it doesn’t help them in their current project they know that it will help them somewhere down the line.” (I think this is why I find it so annoying when people ask on forums such as Social Sound Design on how to make a particular sound, without having even tried to find their own solutions. Note to self: ignore those questions from now on, they do not help the person asking the question)
