Flight radar

My brother tipped me off about this site & app: FlightRadar24 – it shows all the air traffic, everywhere! And with the app you can even point your cellphone camera at a plane overhead (or click it onscreen) and it will tell you what plane it is & where its going….

When you compare the air traffic over New Zealand right now (Thursday mid morning) with even that of Australia, it provides immediate insight into the associated nosie pollution that ruins field recording
(unless its planes you are recording!)


But when you look at more densely populated areas, it soon becomes apparent how difficult it must be to find gaps between overhead planes to record…

If your flight is ever delayed, its a handy app & site as you can check exactly where your plane is…

But for field recordists, by zooming in on your current recording location it also provides some insight as to how long you have before the next plane flies over…
