Just to show I am not totally platform agnostic, here is a great video of the foley recordist at SoundFirm in Sydney, Australia using a Pyramix System.
The Pyramix system in the video is being used with a Smart Console – a mixing controller that claims to be “10 times more efficient than any other design.” Have a look at the video below (somehow the voiceover reminds me of BladeRunner!)

what the?
I have heard a lot about Pyramix before and by what they say, it is much more designed for post production workflows from the ground up! I mean it has all the conforming capabilities built in, etc…
However, a local sound post house here in Manchester was recently upgrading their facilities. One of the guys there was trying to get the commpany to go the Pyramix way but the senior engineer’s reply was this. “I’d rather go for a ProTools HD system simply because I want to be able to go out on holidays. Its easy to find someone to cover who can work on ProTools but quite hard to find someone acquainted with Piramix!”
Makes perfet sense to me. I personally work in ProTools alone, all the time, for music and post. I understand and realize other software programs are available and do many things as good or better but PT is simply such a standard that for compatibility (and holiday issues:p) it is simply the most viable option.
I’m liking that Smart control surface though! This one REALLY looks like a space ship control bridge!!
Having seen Pyramix in action several times, I agree with Enos… it has an exceptionally deep architecture and therefore, a very steep learning curve. Not something you can throw a freelancer at with a moments notice. It’s a stunning system however and can more than compete at the top end of the Post DAW heap.
How has nobody else commented on the fact that the foley artist ISN’T WEARING ANY PANTS?!
Seriously though- the combination of the Pyramix and Smart console post panel (?) looks pretty slick. I love jog wheel editing.
