My Little Spaceman Project

I’ve started a new project involving a little spaceman… I plan to do some stop motion with him sooner or later – heres the prototype set on flickr for the moment:

Like the spaceman and his environs. Think the mushroom coffee table will look good in his cave. Dandelion as well.

    Looking forward to his adventures.

    That looks really promising!

  • Enos Desjardins says:

Brilliant pictures! I’m loving the lighting on some and the use of depth of field on others! Looking forward to seeing the spaceman “alive”

  • John says:

Nice lighting. If you didn’t know, you’d never suspect it was a mini-man.

Out of curiosity, are you using a still camera. If so, what are you going to use to ‘sequence’ the shots? The reason I ask is that I’ve just got hold of a remote for my Sony Alpha that also has timer functions for time lapse photography.

They’re all shot on location, with my Canon 40D DSLR with a 60mm macro lens – the little spaceman would be about 2cm tall…. For timelapse/stop motion etc I have a Canon TC80N3 remote timer. I used to have a Canon 30D camera but upgraded to the 40D to get Live View, which is pretty handy for shooting stop motion as means you can onion-skin between the last shot & the live view through the lens… The first stop motion tests I’ll shoot with the TC80N3 but once I get serious & have something story-boarded I’ll be using my laptop running Dragon stop motion software (a friend is shooting who is an animator is shooting a short film with it at the moment & swears by it!)

He needs a nememis, an evil alien

Great character. Did you design him?

I like the cinema style limited depth of field and the non sequitur of his size to that of his environment
