Nagras on FiIm

If you haven’t seen the film DIVA (Jean-Jacques Beineix 2001) then I have some good news: you should. Apart from being a beautiful film it also features a stealthy Nagra IV-s armed field recordist within its plot. So I got to thinking, what other movies show Nagras onscreen? Another film must surely be THE CONVERSATION (Francis Ford Coppola 1974)

Wikipedia suggests: “a Nagra III features prominently in the John Travolta 1981 film Blow Out (Brian De Palma 1981) about a freelance sound effects engineer. Another Nagra may be seen in the Beatles’ movie Help! (Richard Lester 1965). In the film The Informant! (Steven Soderbergh 2009) the FBI installs a Nagra in Matt Damon’s character’s briefcase to covertly record conversations related to ADM price fixing…”

Any others spring to mind?

In “Seance” by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, one of the characters is a sound effects recordist and If I remember correctly he uses Nagras. Also in “Inception”, the little music playback device is a Nagra Ares-M.
    Beautiful machines indeed…

Im not 100% sure, but I think there may have been a Nagra used in Full Metal Jacket by the small film crew? Might have been a different recorder, or an entirely different film! It’s been a while since I’ve watched it…

Found an old website that was trying to track the use of REEL to REEL machines in films. (Nagras included)
