New Zealand Film Festival 2012

There aren’t too many positive attributes to winter in New Zealand, but one of them is most definitely the New Zealand Film Festival – Bill and his team travel the world seeking out great cinema for us all to experience and this year they have managed to secure a lot of the best films that debuted at Cannes! Relatedly, one of my favourite projects every year for the last five or six years is writing music and sound for the logo for the New Zealand Film Festival… And a few weeks ago I mixed my new fragment of music with John Neill at Park Road Post for the 2012 Festival, so great to hear it cranked up on the dub stage!

This year the festival coincides with the final mix of EMPEROR, so I have had to be particularly selective as to what films I go to. Some years I have been between projects/underemployed which means I get to go to lots of movies during the day but not this time… So here’s my selection for 2012:

Marley by Kevin Macdonald

Moonrise Kingdom by Wes Anderson

From Up On Poppy Hill by Goro Miyazaki

The Angel’s Share by Ken Loach

Chasing Ice by Jeff Orlowski

The Taste of Money by Sang-soo Im
