NZFF#3 Largo

Todays movie is called Largo – a movie about a bar? Here is the official website for the film & seeing Jon Brion do his thing in the film is my primary motive for going, check out the trailer:

If you were to do a search online it isn’t too hard to find a few bootleg recordings of some of Jon Brions sets from Largo and while I’ve been a fan of his film scores for a long time hearing him improvise live made me appreciate him in a totally different way. Check out this hilarious 11 minute version of the often-murdered-by-people-learning-guitar Led Zeppelin song Stairway to Heaven (I love how he gets so many film references into this version)

I think hes using a looper pedal to do the drums/bass etc for the end section…. brilliant!

Jon Brion’s live show is truly an amazing experience. When I saw him, he played The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows”, including all the instruments and weird sounds – solo! He’s one of a kind.
