Off the beaten track

Headed inland today, into the hills near Erewhon – first to Lake Heron, where it was blowing a gale… and then started driving into Lake Emily – the road soon turned into a 4WD only track… this next bit made me glad to be in a 4WD and to be travelling it in summer – those ruts look gnarly!

Tried to get some shots of a falcon or hawk, but couldn’t get close enough – they have awesome eye sight & move away very rapidly… So I shot some photos of something that couldn’t fly away in a hurry – this lone tree…

And the wide shot…

Such arid land, covered in snow for much of winter… One of my newphews has recently got a job on a farm/station way up in this country, so will twist his arm & hopefully be revisiting here with a local guide!

Very jealous Tim, I’ve always wanted to go for a trip up into the Canterbury high country! Hey isn’t that hill behind the tree a Lord of the Rings set? 😉
