Overflow is my favourite prop store (& now, best badly kept secret) ever!
What makes it so great is partly the location – it isn’t really close to anywhere populated, so the eclectic collection of ‘stuff’ is neither over priced nor overly picked over by shoppers
(or by people aiming to profit from reselling what they find!)
Love to know who owned this bike originally!
When I say eclectic I mean it: lights from a hospital operating theatre!?
Random metal stuff?
I’ve written before about how every sound designer, foley artist & field recordist should really find & support a great junk store – have a read here for a refresher but Overflow has definitely become my favourite ever! Why? Well this:
A beautiful sounding antique marimba/xylophone! When was the last time you walked into a shop & found something like this? Jan, the owner of Overflow was super helpful in putting me in touch with someone who can affordably transport it up to Wellington for me, so later next week I’ll actually get to have a play on it with my own percussion mallets, but even with the threadbare donger it sounded great! Now to practice becoming a human arpergiator…..
I’d pay good money to see a full size adult riding around on this mini motorbike
I’d also like to see someone wearing the orange woollen waste coat above with the blue patterned jacket below…
I was sorely tempted to find out how much these metal tractor wheels were!
Imagine having them suspended & hitting them with a sledgehammer, one over on the left and one on the right…
3, 2, 1…. KLANG!
