Road Trip to East Cape

I’m off on a road trip to Waihau Bay, East Cape to record ambiences & some FX for a film I’m doing later in the year. The film is about two thirds of the way through the shoot & normally I would wait until I had officially started the job to go field recording but I was motivated to start early for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, as the film is being shot now, at the end of summer, the soundtrack needs to reflect that & after reading the script & seeing some stills from the film I realised that some ambiences just wont exist by the time we start sound post. Secondly, there are a few vehicles that could be problematic to find down here & so I’ll be spending a few hours recording cars on Tuesday. Thirdly, I need a break from the city & I’ve driven through East Cape a few times before & it is such a beautiful part of the country that it seems the perfect excuse to go! Lastly, my introduction to a film is often first the script & then viewing a rough cut. I have a strong feeling that this might be the ultimate introduction to the project – to go and spend some time in the world of the film… as both a physical, real reference point & a metaphorical one.

And I’ll see if I can capture my first immersive 360 VR… ok, back soon!
