Mana Island shot March 14th with Canon 5DmkIII and EF 100-400L lens

I have a theory that the best time to shoot timelapse is either just before or just after a storm, as the sunrise or sunset tends to be spectacular! This photo was taken at sunset a day or so before Cyclone Lusa arrives…
I first developed this theory when I was on Shodoshima, in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan. I had just arrived and was itching to get out & shoot some timelapses, but there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky!! After four or five days I started to wonder if there were ever clouds in that area at that time of year. Then the news mentioned a cyclone was coming and the evening before it arrived, the sunset was spectacular. The following day the sky was full of deep grey clouds but as soon as the storm passed, the dawn the next morning was also very beautiful… Golden hour became spectrally psychedelic!
