State of my Modular

Call me a certifiable-eurorack-modular-synth-addict, but yesterday I had the most fun in ages installing new modules and then having a jam! Here is a photo of the patch I was playing with:

Tims Modular

Modules recently added: Cwejman BLD, AS RS88, Morphing Terrarium, Dual Cyclotron, A154/A155/A156, FOH Choices, RCD, Metasonix R54, Zorlon Cannon, A138m, Z2040, OSC303… And OMFG you should hear it!!!

The next upgrade is going to be of the furniture variety: I’ve just initiated the process of having a Goikes 15U case built to rehouse all of my synth modules, heres the prototype from his site, the only difference is that I am going to have it built using Kauri native timber!

If you want to see one fully loaded have a look at this photo

Kauri is such beautiful wood – I’ve been keeping an eye out for some and often see wood that is carbon dated to be 45,000 years old! Obviously it will be salvaged/recycled kauri – theres no way anyone would want to cut down these majestic ancient trees!

ps for anyone local interested in getting hooked started with Eurorack modules, as soon as I migrate everything to the new case I’ll have two G6 cases, 2 G6 racks and a G3 rack up for sale… Drop me a line if you’re interested in reserving one!

Haha, Hey Tim what is the energy star rating of that wee rig there?

  2. Hey Tim,

I’ve been thinking about a similar wood case for my modular, but what’s keeping me from going that way is that you’ll obviously loose the shielding effect of a grounded metal enclosure. I’m not entirely sure I want that….but that case sure looks beautiful!

I’ve never heard of anyone having problems re shielding – eurorack signals are so much hotter than eg mic level or even +4dB… The one & only time I ever have had any trouble was when I installed the doepfer spring reverb, positioning of the spring tank relative to power supply was critical to reduce hum…. Oh the Frequesteiner is also sensitive to position relative to power supply & other modules….
