(interesting what he says at 29.00 about attending the final mix/dub of a film he has scored, and how difficult and unpleasant it is. Working as a sound designer on films I always wondered why it was more common for the music editor to attend the mix and not the composer. I discovered exactly why myself on my last film score and thankfully had a great music editor, but I can only describe it as feeling like you have woken up during a major operation and all your internal organs are sitting out in the open for all to see, and to possibly be re-combined in ways you did not intend. Fun. Not! “Newman: moments of true horror… will I survive? etc”)

▶ it is ‘sad and beautiful’ to read all the thoughts & tributes for Ryuichi Sakamoto, but it’s also been culturally fascinating to read tributes from within Japan. One of my Japanese friends explained a uniquely Japanese law: “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.” A certain degree of conformity is required, which explains the leagues of salarymen and some of the respect shown to Sakamoto, apart from his music.

Curious to hear what you think of Masterplan. I hadn’t heard of it before but their own description makes me want to believe! I’ve been casually looking into alternatives for L316 in the Waves aftermath now that they’re even more of a liability than they used to be.

I installed the demo but haven’t had a play yet – I’m a bit the same, looking for an alt to Ozone…
