quick version: I changed my FB bookmark to take me directly to FB Marketplace, which doesn’t serve ads because it is a free marketplace. From there I can jump directly to my own personal account or to HISSandaROAR page, or to a FB Group (eg Darkroom, XPAN or NZ Astro etc) without ever being exposed to the FB Algorithm serving up ads.
longer version: As you may guess I absolutely loathe FaceBook & Meta & Mark Zuckerberg… But there are a very few things FB does that I need to retain access to. The most annoying aspect of this scenario is the ads – if I access FB via my iPhone FB app, every second or third post is an ad. I despise ads but I especially despise nowing every time an ad is served at me, Meta makes money…
Accessing FB via my desktop Mac using Chrome I use a plugin called FB Purity which blocks ads, but even it doesn’t work some of the time… But then I realised!! If you are never exposed to the FB algorithm, they cant serve ads at you!! For example, in Chrome my FB link took me to the top level of FB ie the algorithm… So I changed that bookmark to take me directly to FB Marketplace, which doesn’t serve ads because it is a free marketplace. From there I can jump directly to my own personal account or to HISSandaROAR page, or to a FB Group (eg Darkroom, XPAN or NZ Astro etc) without ever being exposed to FB Algorithm!! And somehow its changed how I think of FB – its not social media, its an ad market. Visit their algorithm, and you suffer their ads but bypass it going direct to marketplace and its just like visiting eBay or TradeMe… You get what you expect and not what FB algorithm chooses to serve you!
▶ IKEAs naming method To ensure consistent use of names
For naming sounds I have always aimed to start with most important obvious info and leave details until later in the name. I do not use UCS filenames as they prioritise metadata/machine reading over human reading, the classic is “Dog bark…” vs “MAMDog_bark….”
