▶ wow – This tower in Anaklia, on Georgia’s Black Sea coast was planned as a fine-dining restaurant, part of a much larger project, a new city called Lazika, announced in 2011 to become one of the largest economic centers in western Georgia.
In 2012 the government changed and the plans were abandoned. The restaurant never opened. Years later, the empty tower became a landmark of GEM Fest, the Georgian Electronic Music Festival, held nearby since 2015 and known as the world’s longest running electronic music event at 32 consecutive days. Searchlights swept from its top platform over the crowds on the beach below.
Today the tower stands empty again, on a stretch of coast a few kilometers from the Abkhazian border.
