Wow its quite unbelievable how bad search is now with Google. Remember when it became a verb, “to google something….
Now Google doesn’t find anything obscure at all. Like not buried pages deep, it just simply fails & displays nothing.

A simple example – someone on FB marketplace was selling a panoramic photo print, which I am going to buy & pick up later this week. The back of the photo has this on it:

A decade ago, I could google search “Clayton Tume” and get lots of search results.
Now when I tried it, it found absolutely zero results and could only find info about some sports person ‘Clayton Tune”
So its not like ok five pages down the results I find some answers. Its now like, NOTHING. Google has no results at all.
And that is despite using the quotes for explicit term search.

So I switch to DuckDuckGo and use same search term and… instant results. Yes it still found the sports person, but on the first page there are 10 seperate search results for the photographer.

Next I switch to Kagi and use same search term and… instant results. Yes it still found the sports person, but on the first page there are 7 seperate search results for the photographer.

Google used to be an endless search engine – you could just keep paging through endless search results.
Not anymore. One has to wonder why? Do they really think they can force me to use their shitty AI with unreliable results?
For tech, AI really is the fall of the roman empire.

Anyway, this is a PSA: change your default search engine to anything except Google!
