Coil 1 wound

350 turns and coil #1 is wound!
LOM Preizor #1 is a step closer – thanks to LOM for making them open source

It is both a boring process and one that requires undivided attention…
Tomorrow I’ll wind coil #2 and maybe try for 500 turns if I can stay focused long enough….
And then I have one other bigger coil to wind. It’s an experiment with a larger loop using two hula hoops glued together…

RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto

RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto
This album changed the DNA of music for me forever

I never got to experience Sakamoto perform live, but I did visit some of his installations & exhibitions.
The first was LIFE in collaboration with Shiro Takitani, at the ICC Gallery in maybe 2007
Documented here: Life – an installation by Ruichi Sakamoto & Shiro Takatani

And this brillaint exhibition that he curated in 2012: Search for New Synaesthesia

“Art and music are considered different genres. However, surely there is art that is created through sound, just as there is music that is created visually. Also there are forms of expression that cannot be described as being either art or music and those that can be described as being both. By exploring the synesthesia of art and music, or the boundary between the two, we may be able to catch a glimpse of not only the origin of mankind’s artistic expression, but also its future. That is what I hope to achieve through this exhibition.”

▶ watch full screen!! imagine the POV while flying this!

▶ great interview & such great work featured in this article:
Stealing the silence with Felix Blume

▶ The yolk’s on you: a brief history of throwing food and drink on people as protest

▶ interesting extended bridge for guitars: Passerelle
almost sounds koto-like

▶ love this!
It wasn’t a premiere but I remember going to a test screening of a horror film I was working on, and a woman in the audience screamed at one point… I knew every sound in our mix so it was a bit startling but the bean counters loved it.
The classic test screening story has to be JAWS:

▶ Brutalism is back! Check out these liquid trees:

A week later: “One of the trees is leaking…

▶ what a strangely intriguing device:

Literally co-opted by the Nazis it’s a handheld mechanical calculator, and was used for the worst possible purposes. The back-story of how it works and how the inventor conceived of it is fascinating, despite the circumstances:

“I started to concentrate on possible solutions and at first, naturally, didn’t get any further,” said Hertzstark. “Later, I had an idea that I should look at everything backwards. I thought to myself, I’ll pretend that I have already invented everything. What does this kind of machine really have to look like, so that someone could use it?

▶ “Spotify’s Niche Mixes let you generate personalized playlists for almost anything….
me: How about a playlist for every album, with the album tracks in order as the artist intended?

“Building on the mood, decades and genre playlists the platform debuted in 2021, Spotify today introduced Niche Mixes, a feature the company says combines all of its personalized playlists “in a playful way.”

oh do FCK OFF…. “in a playful way”
All that $$$ and less inspiring ideas than a kid with two tape decks.

And more:
twitter: Spotify has finally done it. They’ve democratized payola.
