Well the one I can remember the most was when I was sleeping on the plane and heard it landing and I woke up with my eyes wide open, looking around scared thinking the plane was crashing haha.
Bit of a long story, but:
My favorite memory is hearing my family’s name being called over the intercom at the Hawaiin airport because we were late for our plane.
My dad forgot to check the time of our flight on our tickets when we were in Maui and we slept in longer than we were supposed to the day we were leaving. It was summer, and we would have been stuck on the island another 2 weeks because flights were booked. So, my dad sped to the airport driving about 90 on the highway, running red lights, etc. He said to me and my brother who were 6 and 10 years old respectively at the time “Kids, don’t take this as an example!”
Anyway, we get to the airport and I’m running along thinking it’s a game and having fun, and my dad parks our rental car in the loading zone at the terminal. We all get out and leave the car there and the security guard says “You can’t leave that-” and my dad throws him the keys to the car and says “Keep it!”
We get through the airport and at one point my dad picked me and my 40 pound bag up together and kept running to make it.
That’s when I hear my family’s name over the intercom in the airport – I’ve never been late for a plane before or since so it was kind of cool to hear our names being said.
Anyway, we barely made it on the plane. The plane actually had left the terminal and they brought it back because we made it and the check-in lady called the plane and brought the plane back.
I grew up in the UK and we used to go for holidays mainly around England and Wales. Only recently did I realise that every single holiday we would end up on a local steam train. They are both my fondest sound and smell (nothing beats the smell of a well oiled engine burning coal)
Travelled to Costa Rica with some friends 6 years back. The house we rented was gorgeous with 3 stories and a balcony on each floor over looking the the top of the forest for a mile before hitting the pacific ocean. For 5 nights we would all just sit out on the balcony for hours, not saying a word, just listening to the animals and insects of the forest. Most nights we were gifted with lightening storms over the ocean. Unfortunately this was before I had any recording equipment. It was definitely something I hope never to forget.
That humming sound your car makes when driving on overpasses or “spaghetti bowls”. There were a bunch of the latter near where I grew up in Texas, and we’d always pass over them when heading out of state.

As a kid we had to take a bridge into town. The sound the car made as it went over the seams in the pavement always sounded fun to me.
the Muslim call to prayer heard when leaving the airport in bali.

I would have one from every trip, but heres the last three
– Samoa; echo locating swiftlets in a pitch black cave
– Bali; swimming in a pool during a torrential downpour
– Japan; water dripping in Taya Caverns
Distant waterfalls echoing up the Eglinton Valley.
The reflections coming back off the limestone cliffs at Earthquakes near Danseys Pass.
