SD087 WARDROBE DESTRUCTION is now released
The idea for this library dates back to a horror film I worked on back in
2004 which involved someone reliving their childhood trauma with a (bad CG) monster in his wardrobe… While it wasn’t a great film, I came across some of the sounds we developed for it & I realised the scale & resonance of wardrobes was worth revisiting. After weeks of searching I managed to get this one on to the roof rack of my 4WD & took it home…
While it was intact it looked quite solid, but it only took a few hours to turn it into rubble and firewood! I rigged it with an MKH8020 pair inside and MKH8040 pair exterior, and before doing any structural damage, I performed impacts on every surface, then used a pair of vibe guns to shake the living sh+t out of it!
After rocking it, dropping it & dragging it across concrete I then smashed it apart, using a crow bar to wrench the more solid parts. Once I had a pile of rubble I put the 8020 mics inside another old bookcase & threw planks & wood panels on top, and then used the vibe guns to rattle the whole pile of wood debris.
By this stage I was getting physically tired, so I leveraged individual planks into the bookcase & broke them down until I had a stack of firewood.

I’m not sure how these old AHOOGA horns work but they tend to make people smile rather than being startled… I’ve been waiting for a calm windless day to record this and last Sunday got the Chev out & drove to a quiet suburb to do some recording.
First I turned the engine off and performed a series of toots, but I noticed that somehow the horn didn’t reach quite as high a pitch as when the engine is running! This maybe due to current draw, although the car has a new fully charged battery… So I also performed some with the car idling.
