{"id":59414,"date":"2026-03-14T16:28:46","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T03:28:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicofsound.co.nz\/blog\/?p=59414"},"modified":"2026-03-14T16:29:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T03:29:26","slug":"fave-step-sequencer-in-protools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicofsound.co.nz\/blog\/fave-step-sequencer-in-protools","title":{"rendered":"Fave Step Sequencer in ProTools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I really enjoy using the step sequencer <a href=\"https:\/\/devicemeister.com\/\">Stepic<\/a> as it behaves much like an analog modular step sequencer but my use was limited to jamming in ableton LIVE, as Stepic doesn&#8217;t have an AAX version &#8211; it is made for VST and AU, and ableton LIVE only. But a while ago after becoming frustrated with existing options in ProTools, I tried using Stepic in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluecataudio.com\/Products\/Product_PatchWork\/\">Bluecat Patchwork AAX plugin<\/a> &#8211; I use it for hosting VST synths inside ProTools and it works perfectly&#8230; but I had never tried using VST sequencers in it.<br \/>\nIt happily loaded Stepic and played in sync, but I also had to manually enable MIDI output from it within a popup menu in Patchwork before it would output MIDI. Since that discovery I&#8217;ve had it sequencing against other MIDI tracks in PT, and against Cirklon &#038; modular &#038; drum machines &#038; it feels tight for sync!<\/p>\n<p>I need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluecataudio.com\/Doc\/Product_PatchWork\/\">read the manual on Patchwork<\/a> as I feel like I am using 1% of its power. (Same for Stepic!)
