Mac M2 Studio known HDMI issue

Ever since I got my M2 Studio Mac its been excellent except for one aspect: HDMI video.

I have three monitors connected: two DELL 27″ monitors (3840×2160) connected via USBC
and a big TV (1920×1080) connected directly via HDMI.

The two DELL monitors work as expected but HDMI has always been flakey, especially when a video via VLC is set to playback fullscreen. THen the video would stall for a few seconds and generally not play properly at all. The only solution seemed to be to reduce the onscreen size and then it would play ok. Swapped HDMI cables and same issue.

But one day I was googling an issue about Adobe Premiere and noticed a comment:

I have no use for Spaces, and I especially hate how if my mouse goes to the top of the screen all monitors get a band across it with a reduced size display on whats on each… like WTF? I don’t want that at all. Same as I dont want a menu on top of every screen. So as soon as I got my new Mac disabling Spaces was one of the first things I did, along with disabling notifications.

But it seems HDMI video via does not work properly with Spaces disabled!?!

Another comment from same user:

“Hi all – another update:
Apple has identified the source of the bug. I anticipate that it will be fixed in a future MacOS update. My understanding is that it’s a complex bug to fix, so it may take additional time to get fixed in the OS.”
