I’m still hunting for a few big old springs, someone wisely suggested looking inside old armchairs…. but I came across this box set of smaller springs which arrived yesterday…200 springs for $18 from here

Hey Tim,
Love your blog! So I don’t know if they have Home Depot over there in NZ (just a giant hardware store), but I did see huge springs for sale there. They’re used to automatically close screen doors. I think they were even called “screen door springs” and they had some up to 45 cm long. Hope you find ’em!
We dont have Home Depot in NZ (I do know what you mean though as I did an ad once for them) but there are three or four big hardware stores/warehouses in Wellington and I have been to them all with no luck. A couple of them did have gate springs, but they were built into some kind of mechanism & appeared too stiff to be much use… The one in that youtube video he could stretch to twice its length fairly effortlessly…
the search continues…
