A recent retro tech is better than modern acquisition…

I was tipped off to the idea of this, by a friend who had recently started working with a small scale metal lathe & mill. He mentioned he’d picked up a draughting table, as he had always loved tech drawing and had a need when visualising & designing small prototypes, which he then would machine with the lathe etc…

The more I thought about it, the more potential uses I could imagine – even as a solid platform for studio gear – synths & drum machines. This particular angle also gave me a comparative budget – I wasn’t prepared to indulge $500 in the idea, but I could be patient & wait for an opportunity…. Weeks passed. Maybe a month. Randomly looking for something else on, FB Marketplace I see this. Reduced from NZ$250 to NZ$150 (US$88). After being listed for weeks, no interest. They wanted it gone (from their storage space, which was costing them)

Easel flat surface is A0 in size – 841 x 1189mm – 33 x 46 inches
Thats a pair of orchestral timpani on left, for scale, that I had to move to make room.
It is MUTOH brand..
can be raised from sit to stand height – foot pedal releases sprung height control.
easel surface can angle from vertical to horizontal
position can be locked off, altered with degrees of accuracy.

its all good if this just ends up covered in synths & drum machines & pedals & stuff…
it is still performing an invaluable role in a very sturdy, multi purpose way.
But I think it might enable other projects…. and ideas…
at least partly from proximity to this particular old school tech.
