RIP David Lynch

Lovely sunny morning, boot up the Internet & damn!
David Lynch has departed this mortal coil

One anecdote:
Many years ago I rented a warehouse space in Jessie St for my studio & living space… Living right in central Wellington city was a buzz, but one bonus was that it was always an easy walk to any film screenings. One year I noticed a new David Lynch film was in the schedule for the NZ Film Festival, so I booked tickets – front row of The Paramount, as its a smallish theatre & I wanted to be front & centre… I knew exactly how long it would take to leave my studio, walk to The Paramount & get to my seat… So I loaded up a bong with the strongest herbs I had, consumed it and then headed out the door and just got to my seat as the lights went down, and Inland Empire started. Even without the herb, I have a vivid memory of looking around the theatre half way through the film and thinking ‘this is the closest we’ll ever have to a group hallucination’

Rest in Peace Mr Lynch

Where do ideas come from?

I so love the moment in this vid when David Lynch is explaining how he wants to experiment, capturing the sound of an orchestra with a mic inside a bottle, as an option… The gleeful look on Badalamenti’s face is everything. They can’t say no when its the Director asking!
